Cabbage Soup Seven Day Diet

The cabbage soup 7 day diet is one of the most popular short term diets and has been for several decades. While the 7 day cabbage soup diet can no longer be considered a fad diet, due to its long term popularity, it is definitely considered a crash diet. Because of its simplicity, there is very little to prepare. Because it is almost entirely based on vegetables, it’s very inexpensive to pursue. In fact, many people may choose to follow this diet simply to save money with losing weight only as a bonus! But what makes it so very popular is a combination of its effectiveness and the fact that you can eat as much as you want while on it.

Because the diet focuses almost entirely on vegetables and fruits, the caloric intake is very low on most days, no matter how much you eat. The soup itself is largely just water, cabbage, and onion, with other vegetables being permitted most days, and V8 juice and Lipton Onion Soup powder being among the seasonings that are allowed.

Though you may eat as much as you want on this diet, the soup itself, and the fruits and vegetables days are not very filling. And because this diet is not nutritionally complete, your body will very likely begin to rebel and start craving other foods. Fat and protein are essential to a healthy diet, but there is very little of that allowed on the diet. If you’re accustomed to processed foods, your taste buds may be craving starches and sugars, not to mention that many of the chemicals and additives in processed foods are addictive, which means that your body will be going through withdrawal while on this diet. This may actually be a good thing, and is likely why the cabbage soup 7 day diet is often referred to as a 7 day detox diet. In a technical sense, this isn’t really a detox diet, but purging your body of processed foods for 7 days (for this, you wouldn’t be using the V8 or the Lipton soup mix, though possibly organic versions would be alright) will essentially detox your body. Be careful, though, detoxing is not a pleasant experience, no matter how good you’ll feel afterwards!

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

If you are looking for a diet plan that is different, effective, and actually healthy for you, then you are in the right place because the 7 day soup diet plan just might be all of those things. Obviously, we need to investigate these findings, but let’s take a moment to do just that. We have thing to lose but some weight.

Most of the time when people are talking about the 7 day soup diet plan, they are really referring to the 7 day cabbage soup diet. So if you really want to learn about that diet plan, then please visit that page. But, we will review here below just to make things simple.

7 Day Soup Diet Plan

Day One

Day is is great because you can eat all that you want to. Isn’t this different? ell, not really. The catch is that you can eat all the fruit you want, but no bananas. You are to eat your soup and fruit for day one. Drink unsweetened teas and water because it is important.

Day Two

It is vegetable day! Get excited and enjoy natures medicine. It is your choice of raw or cooked vegetables. Go for the green, leafy ones if you can and try to stay away from dry beans, corn, and peas. Eat your soup and all the veggies that you can stand. Once you make it to dinner you can reward yourself with a bake potato. Yes, you can add butter, but it would be best if you didn’t. No fruits today.

Day Three:

This is another all you can eat day. Mix all the fruit, soup, and vegetables that you can eat and enjoy. Eight glasses of water are a must today.

Day Four:

Obviously, you need to drink your eight glasses of water. Eat your soup for the day and get your bananas and skim milk in. If you are not a skim milk drinker, then substitute with 1% milk. The bananas will taste like sweets after only eating vetegables and soup so much, so be sure to enjoy this day.

Day Five:

Today is the big meat day if there ever was one. You should eat 10 to 20 ounces of beef and up to six fresh tomatoes. You may not eat beef, so broiled or baked chicken will work here, but no skin on the chicken, please. Also, you may substitute fish for the beef or even  tofu if you are a vegetarian. But  include you soup on this day, the more the merrier.

Day Six:

Drink your water, eat your soup, vegetables, and get some more beef in your life. Again you can substitute as you need to make this work, but don’t eat any potatoes today.

Day Seven:

This is a great day cause it is the end of your 7 day diet journey. You can enjoy brown rice, unsweetened fruit juices and veggies. This is another all you can eat day, so love it. Have at least one bowl of soup on this day, but you should do two of them and drink your water.

If you follow this diet, then you will have achieve the results of the 7 day soup diet plan.

The 7 Day Soup Diet

The Seven Day Soup Diet

The 7 day soup diet is also known as the 7 day cabbage soup diet for the simple reason that this diet is based entirely on its special cabbage soup recipe. This is not to say that the entire diet is nothing but cabbage soup! In fact, many people do make the mistake of eating only the cabbage soup, and then can’t understand why they fail to complete the full 7 days. It’s very important to follow the entire diet, and to eat as much of the foods that are allowed each day as you want. Trying to exercise portion control is a recipe for failure when following this 7 day diet.

Each day on the diet allows you to eat unlimited amounts of something, with the exception of the banana day and the tomatoes. One day may be vegetables only (for a bit more fullness, try adding something like okra to your mix of veggies so that it will stick with you a bit longer than simply broccoli and green beans), one day may be fruit only, one day may be both fruit and vegetables. There’s even an unlimited beef day towards the end! But no matter what the menu calls for, you are allowed unlimited amounts of cabbage soup if prepared correctly, and this should keep you from feeling too deprived.

Despite the large amount of food that you can eat, you may still feel deprived. This is because this diet is not a complete diet. It will not provide all the nutrition that your body needs, and so you will probably have strong cravings- most likely for fats and proteins, though if your regular eating habit involves much processed foods, you may find yourself craving starches and sugars as well. If you find that you absolutely can not finish this diet, do not blame yourself. Will power may be involved, but will power is no match for a starving body. When you do not get the nutrients your body needs, it will double cross you in an attempt to get its needs met. Blaming yourself will only lead to poor dietary choices down the road, and a lack of willpower becomes a convenient excuse.  If you fall off the wagon, either move on to a safer long term eating habit, or hop back on and finish out the rest of the diet. The 7 day soup diet is not one to be followed for more than 7 days at a time, but if you can do it, you’re more or less guaranteed a good loss of 5-10 lbs for all your work.

7 Day Cabbage Soup Diet

The seven day cabbage soup diet has been extremely popular for the last 20-30 years. One reason that this 7 day diet has become so popular is because, well, it’s effective. You can easily lose 10 lbs in 7 days simply by following this diet strictly. Another reason is simply because you can eat as much food as you want while on this diet. You won’t have much if any choice in what foods you eat, but the foods that you are allowed to have on each day is unlimited in amount with the exception of the bananas and the tomatoes.

What allows you to consume as much food as you want and still lose weight is the diet’s focus on very low carb intake and a focus on foods with a high water content. For example, you can eat as much cabbage soup as you want. The 7 day cabbage soup diet recipe is very straight forward and consists mostly of water, cabbage, onion, and sometimes carrots and tomatoes plus some spices. Different variations allow for different ingredients, but all the ingredients are based on vegetables and spices. Many people find this soup to be very bland if made according to the basic recipe, and many more find it to be quite tasty when they follow the variation that suggests using V8 and Lipton’s Onion Soup powder. The problem is that whether the soup is good or not in the beginning, most who follow this diet find themselves unable to finish the full 7 days, because as healthy as the soup is, and as healthy as the fruits and vegetables are, they do not contain the complete nutrition that your body needs. So even if you’re eating enough to keep you full, your body will still crave more food just to obtain the nutrients that it needs.

Sadly, many people who fall off the seven day cabbage soup diet before the seven days are finished blame themselves for a lack of willpower. If you choose to follow this diet and can not finish it, do NOT blame yourself! Your body needs nutrition that this diet can not provide, and while you may lose out on losing several pounds by falling off this diet before it’s over, it may be better for your health over all. Blaming yourself will only lead into bad dietary habits down the road. While cravings for sugary, starchy foods usually isn’t something that your body needs, you’ll need to listen to your body’s needs for optimal health, which in turn will lead to weight loss.

However, to drop a few pounds quickly, this diet will certainly do it for you in most cases. Most of the weight will be water weight, but the focus on vegetables may help you to start making healthier choices after the diet is over. Seven Day Weight Loss Diet

There is more than one 7 day weight loss diet, but when discussing which 7 day diet to use, the most popular by far is the 7 day cabbage soup diet. Perhaps it is because the cabbage soup diet has received so much press, maybe it’s because there are so many cabbage soup recipe books. It probably is only because the cabbage soup diet promises that you’ll lose about 10 lbs in 7 days.

Most people feel that they can stick to any diet if it’s only for 7 days, especially if the reward is a 10 lb weight loss. But when you add in the fact that you can eat as much as you want while on the diet, its popularity goes through the roof. The funny thing is, eating as much as you want is not the same thing as eating whatever you want, and any little deviation from the prescribed diet menu can nullify all the work and self control that you’ve exerted. After all, a 7 day weight loss diet plan is called a diet for a reason.

It’s very difficult for most people to stick to a mainly fruit and vegetable diet for long periods of time, and it’s not just a matter of mind over desire. Your body is designed to need fats, proteins, and other vitamins and minerals that can’t be gotten from a strictly fruit and vegetable diet. When you don’t receive all of the nourishment that your body actively needs, your cravings will go crazy, and this is one of the reasons that diets fail. Either the dieter gives in before the diet is over, or as soon as the diet is over, the dieter goes on a binge. Did you know that a craving for chocolate often indicates a need for more zinc? Knowing these things before hand will give you a better chance at surviving a 7 day weight loss diet intact. After all, if you know why you’re craving these things, it will be easier to combat the cravings, and you may be able to resist over indulging at the end of the 7 days.

7 Day Diet Soup

Seven Day Diet Soup

The 7 day diet soup is the primary ingredient in the 7 day cabbage soup diet. The cabbage soup plays such a large role in this 7 day diet for the simple reason that it is an excellent way to consume more water than you would otherwise, it is low in calories, it is nutritious, and its ingredients have a reputation for cleansing/detoxing.

The 7 day diet soup is also very easy to make with very few ingredients. While much experimentation is not recommended while on the diet, for the obvious reasons that it’s too easy to increase calories/fat/sodium when adding other ingredients, many people find that with a little tweaking, the soup is a tasty addition to a non-diet healthy eating plan.

The ingredients are simple. Simply take:

* 6 large green onions
* 2 green peppers
* 1 or 2 cans of tomatoes (diced or whole)
* 3 Carrots
* 1 Container (10 oz. or so) Mushrooms
* 1 bunch of celery
* half a head of cabbage
* 1 package Lipton soup mix
* 1 or 2 cubes of bouillon (optional)
* 1 48oz can V8 juice (optional)
* Season to taste with salt, pepper, parsley, curry, garlic powder, etc.

Dice, chop, or shred the vegetables (whatever size pleases your palate), and add about 12 cups of water, or 8 cups water and 4 cups (the 48oz can) of V8. If you like it spicy, you can add chili powder, curry powder, or simply use the spicy V8. Cover, and simmer for at least an hour- 2 hours is better.

If you’re making this soup because it’s tasty, other things can be added. You could boil the liquid down and thicken it and then top with shredded cheddar, add chunks of stew beef, chicken, or even lamb, stir in a little sour cream or plain yogurt, or add anything you want, really. If you’re making the soup for the diet, it’s best to keep the recipe as close to the original as possible, though. The V8 is a great way to add flavor to the soup, but if you really want to cut the calories, plain water with seasonings might be the better way to go. If you don’t like French Onion Soup mix, a nice blend of French or Italian herbs might make all the difference.

7 Day Detox Diets

Seven Day Detox Diets

There are several 7 day diets to choose from when you’re looking for a good detox diet. In fact, 7 day detox diets are among the most popular because most people feel that they can follow any eating plan if it’s for only 7 days, and for those who are concerned about how the diet will affect them, most are able to start and finish the diet while on vacation (3 day weekends that don’t involve parties are a great idea to arrange for your diet since you won’t have to take as much time off from work).

1.) Cabbage Soup Detox Diet

The Cabbage Soup Detox Diet is also known as the 7 Day Cabbage Soup Diet. This diet has a strong focus on fruits and veggies, and on a very healthy, low calorie soup. While some meat and dairy products are allowed on this diet, they’re extremely limited and are not to be used every day. This is a good way to jump start a healthier daily diet because it will encourage you to include more fruits and veggies in your meals, and the quick weight loss, though water, is a great motivation.

2.) Yogurt Detox Diet

There is another 7 day detox diet plan that has a heavy focus on fruits, vegetables, fish, and yogurt. It’s important to note that if you’re really after a detox diet, that you should be wary of the ingredients in your yogurt. For example, most commercial brands of yogurt use high fructose corn syrup. While sugar isn’t much better health-wise, high fructose corn syrup is known to actually cause a number of health problems, and tends to make you crave more sweets. A better idea is to use an organic, plain yogurt, blend it with fresh fruits (or maybe unsweetened cocoa powder) and use your own sweeteners. Stevia is a no calorie plant that is many times sweeter than sugar, and is a healthier substitute than artificial sweeteners. Maple syrup (real maple syrup) is another popular choice.

3.) The Other Detox Diet

There is another 7 day detox diet that is a little more complicated, but does seem to take into account nutritional needs in addition to the basic detox. This diet recommends starting the day with a cup of water with lemon juice squeezed in (to start your digestive juices). This is followed by fresh fruit and gluten-free grains, such as amaranth, quinoa, millet, or brown rice (note that millet should only be used in small amounts by those who do not have a healthy thyroid). Fresh fruits and vegetables are still the focus, but small amounts of butter is actually encouraged, to help protect your cell walls while on this diet. Heavy use of water is encourage, and if you find that you’re too hungry to handle the diet, organic baked chicken or fish is allowed at 3pm (they say it’s the easiest time for your body to handle meat), and a small amount of legumes, such as lentils can be added to the vegetable heavy meals.

Keep in mind that 7 day detox diets are not nutritionally complete, and therefore should be limited only to the 7 day period, and should be limited to no more than 3 or 4 times a year. Overuse of detox diets can actually lead to a low metabolism, yo-yo dieting, and even weight gain due to the lowered metabolism.

7 Day Diet Plan

When it comes to choosing a diet plan there can be so much information and so many diets available for you to consume it can actually be overwhelming. So today I thought we would take a look at a couple of different 7 Day Diet Plans as they are some of the most popular diets around.

First let’s talk about what makes the 7 Day Diets so popular?  The answer is pretty simple.  Most diets or weight loss goals are set for short term issues.  You want to lose some weight for pictures, or to fit into a dress, or just to look good at the beech next week and as humans we are just programmed to think in terms of days and weeks.  So it is natural for us to look at the 7 day diet as a perfect weight loss plan.

Some Popular 7 Day Diet Plans:

The 7 Day Smart Diet Plan

This one is kind of sneaky, it is a 7 day diet plan, but at the same time it really focuses on helping you lose 10lbs in 30 days.  That’s right 30 not 7. The 7 day diet plan is 7 days of meals and tips that you apply to a four week period.

The Seven Day Meal Plan Diet

The Seven Day Meal Plan Diet proposes up to 20 lbs of weight loss in just 7 days.  If it sounds too good to be true it probably is.  Also it is probably unhealthy.  Unless you are morbidly obese it is unlikely and unhealthy for you to lose that much weight that quickly.

The 7 Day Diet

The most extreme and least nutritionally balance 7 Day Diet Plan has got to be the 7 Day Diet itself.  This diet uses an extremely strict meal plan that severely limits your daily intake of calories, as well as the types of foods you are eating.  I think there is actually a day of eating only 5 bananas and water or something ridiculous like that.

Are 7 Day Diet Plans Health?

Honestly, that question is too broad.  The latter of the diets listed above are likely unhealthy to do on a regular basis.  I don’t think you are going to risk your health by trying them, but I am not a trained medical professional and would recommend you consult your physician before you start any of the 7 Day Diet Plans.

The first of the diets listed above is actually a pretty sound diet.  It uses proven dieting tactics and combines them with healthy meals and exercise.  If I were you I would suggest finding a diet that sounds reasonable, provides you with good healthy food, and has some sort of exercise plan to go with it.  Because we all know the fastest, easiest, and best way to lose weight is by eating right and exercising. There is no way to cheat that.

Seven Day Detox Diet Plan

The 7 Day Detox Diet Plan is a fairly simple 7 day diet, but it does require quite a bit of preparation. After all, a major component of the diet is the cabbage soup which needs to be made ahead of time, or fresh at each meal. If you choose to follow the plan without using the cabbage soup, it will still require a lot of fresh fruits and veggies which will still mean a special shopping trip for most people, and since fresh fruits and veggies can spoil quickly, and canned fruits and veggies are not allowed on this diet (with the possible exception of organic, all natural brands that do not use any additives and use water instead of oils or juices), so more than one trip may be required.

The menu for the 7 day detox diet plan is: Day 1.) eat as much fruit as you want, except no bananas. Unsweetened tea, coffee, cranberry juice and/or water. Day 2.) as many raw or cooked vegetables as you want except for beans, peas, and sweet corn. At dinner you may have a baked potato with butter. Day 3.) As many fruits and vegetables (no bananas, beans, peas, or sweet corn) as you want. No baked potato at dinner. Day 4.) Up to 8 bananas today, and as much skim milk as you want. Day 5.) 10-20 oz of beef today, and a large tin or up to 6 fresh tomatoes. You may eat broiled or baked chicken or fish instead of the beef. You must drink at least 6-8 glasses of water today and must eat the cabbage soup at least once. Day 6.) Beef and vegetables day- you may have up to 2 or 3 steaks with fresh vegetables or salad- no potato. You must eat the cabbage soup at least once. Day 7.) brown rice, unsweetened fruit juices, vegetables. Eat the cabbage soup at least once.

Add to this as much of the cabbage soup as you wish per day, as well as as much water as you want.

There is another fairly well known 7 day detox diet plan which has a heavy emphasis on vegetables, fruits, and low fat yogurt, and a few others with different requirements, but this is the most popular 7 day detox diet plan that I’ve seen so far.

Seven Day Detox Diet

The 7 day detox diet is a simple 7 day diet. There may be other versions of this diet, but the most popular is the 7 day cabbage soup diet.

What is the cabbage soup diet, you ask?

The cabbage soup diet is extremely popular for two reasons. 1.) You can eat as much as you want from each day’s allowed food groups and as much cabbage soup as you want. 2.) The perceived health benefit of consuming so many fruits and vegetables.

Keep in mind that a diet low in protein is not safe for long periods of time. This is perhaps the reason that one of the final days in the diet allows you to eat more or less as much beef as you wish, and one day includes skim milk. This is still not enough for long term use, but for a short term weight loss diet, a healthy person should do fine on it.

While the name of this diet indicates that it’s a healthy detox diet, neither description is accurate. The only detoxing that is likely to occur on the diet is a great deal of, shall we say- evacuation? Most of the weight lost on this diet is from water loss, and a person who is unused to consuming so many vegetables and fruits may have a difficult time on the other end as well.

However, while this is not a nutritionally complete diet, the high use of vegetables and fruits is a great way to get someone who normally consumes very little of either to expand their palate. The quick weight loss that is achieved with this diet can be very encouraging to a dieter, and may prompt them to continue on with a healthier diet at the end. Of course, the deprivation may actually encourage the opposite, causing binge eating and yo-yo dieting.

While the path to long term weight loss isn’t paved with restrictive diets, diets like the 7 day detox diet can be a great jump start.
