7 Day Diet

There is more than one seven day diet, but though there are many to choose from, there is only one that is usually meant when someone refers to the “Seven Day Diet”, and that is the 7 day cabbage soup diet.

There are a number of reasons for this, spanning from its age (publicized in the 80′s) to its reputation. Reportedly, the diet is based on some science that points to cabbage being a potent fat burner. Though there are no reputable studies that support this theory, the story remains the same and is passed along from dieter to dieter. The diet is also reputed to be a potent detox diet, and while that may be true for the first few days of the diet (consisting of nothing but vegetables, fruits, and the cabbage soup), the later days of the diet more or less contradict this theory (bananas, skim milk, steaks).

While there is no denying that this diet is extremely effective, this 7 day diet really does work on the principle of water loss. While on this diet, there are virtually no carbs allowed, and only at the end are you permitted high amounts of protein. Carbohydrates cause your body to retain fluid (most people are unaware that salt is not the only substance to cause water retention), and when you eliminate carbohydrates from your system entirely for a few days your body will flush all the excess fluids out. This will be the majority of your weight loss, with perhaps some loss from the severe calorie restriction.

While you can be guaranteed a weight loss of about 5-10 pounds in one week if you follow this diet strictly, the diet should not be continued for more than 7 days at a time, and there should be a rest period of at least several weeks if not several months in between dieting. It is also best to not go on other short term diets in between 7 day diet sessions since you body will need time to recover.

Be aware, also, that if you go on this or other 7 day diets, that after a few days of consuming abnormally low amounts of calories, your metabolism will slow to compensate. Not only will this make it more difficult to lose weight once this occurs, but you will gain weight again very quickly once normal eating resumes. This is perfectly normal, and the ideal way to combat this is to simply embark on a healthy eating plan for life rather than yo-yo dieting.

Learning to understand how the body works and responds to nutrition, calorie intake, and other diet related information is the most important thing you can do before embarking on this or any other 7 day diet.

Best 7 Day Diet

Wednesday, July 14th, 2010

If you are into the day diet fads, then it will not take long before you start wondering which one is the best. Today we are going to discuss the best 7 day diet plans for you to consider and for you to utilized to work towards you long term goal of weight loss. Not all diet plans are created the same and neither is those that are in the seven day diet family.

To get the ball rolling, let’s talk about about a few of the various 7 day diets and I will let you know which one we think is the best at the end of the article. There are not that many to choose from, so this shouldn’t take long at all.

7 Day Cabbage Soup Diet – This particular diet is for those that really love and enjoy cabbage soup as it is a central part to this diet. If you cannot enjoy the taste of cabbage soup, then this is not going to be the diet plan for you. Now, if you like cabbage soup, then this is going to be an interesting one for you to try because of the benefits this soup brings to your body and the diet that you set out to complete.

7 Day Diet – There is the regular seven day diet that most of the people in the world prefer. This is a set diet plan that  involves eating specific foods for a short period of 7 days. This is the main feature that most people like is that the program is only 7 days long. You can do anything for seven days and eating the foods on this diet are not difficult at all.

If I had to decide, like I do now, I would select the regular 7 day diet as the best 7 day diet plan for the specific reason that not everyone enjoys cabbage soup, therefore, they cannot love that particular diet plan.

Free Seven Day Diet Plan

If you’re looking for a free 7 day diet plan, you have a lot to choose from. But quantity isn’t quality and it can be hard to sift through all of the options out there.

Most of the free 7 day diet plans available on the interwebs are probably not safe for long term use, usually aren’t vetted by doctors or nutritionists, and definitely aren’t nutritionally complete. Most will, however, give you very quick weight loss in large amounts. Usually between 3 and 10 pounds in the 7 day period.

Though there are other, more nutritious, diets available, the most popular of these seems to be the 7 day cabbage soup diet. There are many reasons for this- 1.) It’s been around since the 80′s which has given it time to gain traction among those who want to lose weight quickly. 2.) It’s very simple and the food items are inexpensive for the most part. 3.) You can eat as much as you want on this diet and still lose weight. 4.) It’s effective for quick weight loss, though not long term.

This is certainly not the only free 7 day diet plan, but if followed strictly you’re almost guaranteed a weight loss of 5-10 lbs in only a week. Of course, you’ll need to keep in mind that almost all of it will be water weight, and that this diet should NOT be followed for more than 7 days at a time and would ideally have at least 3-6 weeks in between diets.

This diet is absolutely not nutritionally complete, but it is cheap (being almost entirely vegetables and fruits) and easy to do (as in, not complicated, not as in not needing willpower). While you can eat as much as you want, remember that on days where you can only eat vegetables or only eat fruit, and are trying to fill up on watery cabbage, onion, and tomato soup, you may find your willpower flagging. This is not your fault! This diet is not nutritionally complete, and your body will not only crave foods that you normally enjoy (such as chips and ice cream), but it will also crave foods that you need (proteins, fats). Keep in mind that not everyone’s body is well suited to a deprivation diet such as this one. If you think that you will not do well on entire days consisting of nothing but vegetables and cabbage soup, you would do well to find a diet that allows foods such as whole plain yogurt, full fat cheese, or other dairy or meat products (or fish).

Free Seven Day Diet

There are a lot of free 7 day diets that can be found online- free in the sense of “you don’t have to pay for the menu plan or instructions”, of course, not in the “free food for a week” sense.

Some diets will be less costly than others when it comes time for grocery shopping, and the cheapest of these is the 7 day cabbage soup diet. Granted, the final two days when you are allowed to have unlimited amounts of beef will drive up the total cost, but compared to the 7 day yogurt diet and others of that ilk, the cabbage soup 7 day diet is perfect for the uber frugal. Particularly if you have easy access to a farmer’s market or belong to a CSA.

The reason that this free 7 day diet is so cheap is that almost every day is limited solely to vegetables, fruits, and cabbage soup (that recipe is super cheap too- being mainly cabbage, onions, and tomatoes). In fact, if you added some legumes and a few dairy products (high quality cheese, yogurt, full fat whole milk), it would be nearly nutritionally complete and would be ideal for someone who is fasting a grocery bill rather than fasting food.

However, if your intention is to lose weight, and I’m sure that it is, this diet must be followed strictly. If you are able to complete this free 7 day diet without varying, you can be guaranteed weight loss of about 5-10 lbs by the end of the week. Bear in mind, however, that most of the weight lost is merely water weight and much of it will return when the diet ends, even if you continue with a sensible eating pattern.

This diet should not be used for more than 7 days, and optimally would not be used more than 3 or 4 times per year.

That said, if you just want to fit into a cute dress for a party or a teeny tiny bikini for vacation, this is an ideal diet to use. After all, you’ll get to look good, and you’ll have an excuse to splurge on fun food!

Easy 7 Day Diet

Easy Seven Day Diet

If you’re looking for an easy 7 day diet, there are a few to choose from, but there is none easier than the 7 day cabbage soup diet. For obvious reasons, this diet has a heavy emphasis on cabbage soup- and that’s what makes this diet so easy!

While every 7 day diet has a strictly regimented and specifically ordered (no switching days around) menu plan, this easy 7 day diet has a simpler than usual menu and allows you to eat as much food as you wish! Even on days where there are some restrictions (no more than 8 bananas, or no more than 6 tomatoes), you still can have unlimited amounts of the cabbage soup. And while it’s not a good idea, because there is no minimum or maximum restriction on most diet days, if you don’t like the day’s offerings or forget to do your shopping in time, you can simply eat nothing but your cabbage soup and drink water.

This easy 7 day diet cabbage soup recipe is unbelievably simple. The basic recipe is usually onions, cabbage, diced tomatoes, and water. Most websites that offer the cabbage soup recipe online also allow for Lipton’s onion soup mix, V8 juice, and seasonings to be included in the recipe, and many others offer other variations such as carrots, bell peppers, and other vegetables.

Though there are many claims that this easy cabbage soup diet is great for fat burning or detox, there is no scientific proof behind this, and while you are guaranteed to lose 5-10lbs if the diet is followed strictly, most of the weight loss will be water.

Of course, these claims are generally quite safe from reprisals since most who embark on this easy 7 day diet find it impossible to maintain for the full 7 days. This would not necessarily be a bad thing in itself, since even a few days of this diet will result in some weight loss, but due to the highly restrictive nature of this diet, many will immediately binge upon finishing, or not finishing this diet.

If you are one of the many who find it impossible to follow this very strict diet, don’t be too upset with yourself. The 7 day cabbage soup diet is not only strict, it also is severely lacking in nutrition. While a heavy emphasis on vegetables and fruits is never a bad thing, the body needs protein and fat to function (this is not the same thing as sugar- you do not need to consume sugar for optimal health) properly, and even legumes are banned on this diet.

7 Day Soup Diet

The seven day soup diet is a very simple diet that is usually known as the 7 day cabbage soup diet or sometimes simply as the 7 day diet. It is effective if followed exactly and for the full 7 days, but is not a miracle fat burning diet and should not be attempted for more than 7 days in a row, nor should it be used more than 2 or 3 times per year.

The seven day soup diet has maintained popularity for over 20 years because it is easy, effective, and because you can eat as much as you want to. Why is the 7 day diet effective? Well, simply put, carbohydrates make you retain water. The 7 day cabbage soup diet drastically restricts carbohydrates, and also requires plenty of fresh water and watery soup which helps to flush old fluids out of your body. This will account for most of your weight loss during the seven day soup diet. In addition to that, it is extremely difficult to consume large quantities of calories from vegetables. The soup is 100% vegetable and water in its most basic form, with some herbs, spices, bouillon, V8, and/or Lipton Onion Soup mix as options.

If the seven day soup diet is followed exactly, you can expect to lose 8-10 pounds in just one week. Be careful, though, because this kind of weight loss is rarely long term, and if you aren’t especially fond of vegetables and soup, you may find the diet even torturous. Many people of my acquaintance have attempted this diet, but to my knowledge, none have completed it. If you find that you are unable to complete the full 7 days of the soup diet, don’t despair. This diet is not nutritionally complete and your body will not want to obey willful deprivation. If you find yourself falling off the wagon, you have two choices- to end the diet and continue with a healthier eating plan, or to jump back on.

7 Day Vegetable Soup Diet

Seven Day Vegetable Soup Diet

The 7 day vegetable soup diet is more popularly known as the 7 day cabbage soup diet, though technically, vegetable soup is more accurate since the cabbage only plays a single part in the soup recipe as a whole.

The key to the 7 day vegetable soup diet is, as the name implies, the vegetable soup. This is not because the soup contains some magical ingredient that will make the fat melt right out of you (though some have made that claim about the cabbage, but there is absolutely no proof of that), but rather because you can eat unlimited amounts of the soup for the full 7 days without having to worry about it packing on those extra calories.

The 7 day vegetable soup diet is very simple. It has a huge focus on vegetables and fruits, and does allow for the occasional starch (bananas, brown rice) and a few meat binges. The reason that this diet works, allowing dieters to lose 8-10 lbs on average, is that there are almost no carbohydrates allowed on this diet. Carbohydrates cause you to retain water, just as excess salt does (perhaps even worse), and so the heavy focus on vegetables will let your body flush itself out- with the help of lots of watery soup and 6-8 glasses of water a day.

Because so much of the diet is made up of vegetables, many people go on this diet as a kind of detox. This isn’t a detox in the traditional sense of the word, but with all that water and all those vegetables, you will likely get a bit of a cleanse from it. At least from the first few days, which are exclusively water, soup, vegetables, and fruits. After that, more foods are added in, such as the banana and skim milk day and the beef and tomatoes day.

Many people find it very difficult to stick to this 7 day diet because having the same vegetable soup every day becomes very monotonous and vegetables and fruits are not very filling and aren’t very satisfying for the long term. Remember, beans, tofu (made from soy beans) and other starches and proteins aren’t allowed on this diet. And because this isn’t a nutritionally complete diet, your body will begin to absolutely crave other foods. If you find yourself giving in, do not be hard on yourself. It’s not just a lack of will power- it’s simply that your body needs other foods than what is provided on this menu. But if you can stick it out, the brown rice and beef days near the end should help you with your cravings. And remember, the 7 day vegetable soup diet is for only 7 days.

7 Meals A Day Diet

Seven Meals A Day Diet

7 Meals A Day Diet: There are a number of fad diets, crash diets, and even lifestyle diets that are incredibly popular right now. Some of these involve all you can eat menus, some exclude a whole food group and some use only one or two of the food groups. Others call for sensible eating, and some call for what is often referred to as “grazing”.

There are several grazing diet methods, and the 7 meals a day diets are among them. I say diets because there is more than one method out there, and what it really breaks down to is eating once every 2-3 hours. Small portions if you don’t burn many calories, larger portions if you do (such as body builders, and people with active job).

All versions of the 7 meals a day diet share a basic concept, however. Simply eat a miniature version of a meal every 2 or 3 hours, or take larger meal components and split them up. For example, you could have a small salad with half a tuna sandwich two meals in a row (or split throughout the day), or you could have a larger salad at one meal and a whole tuna sandwich at another.

Of course, you’ll want to estimate how much protein, how many carbs, and generally how many calories that you want to consume in a given day. Keep in mind that if you reduce your calorie count too quickly that your body will lower its metabolism to compensate, though eating so often is supposed to keep your metabolism running at tip top pace. Small amounts of nuts, cheese, fruits, and veggies are very popular for small meals, but if you simply want to keep your metabolism running high between full sized meals, these make ideal snacks as well. Keep in mind that most commercial yogurts are actually very high in added sugars, and should be avoided if your intention is to lose weight (though some smaller brands offer healthier alternatives, and plain yogurt could always be used).

Body building sites recommend keeping your fat and protein high for the simple reason that fat is used immediately for energy. Carbohydrates however are stored as fat. If your intention is to lose weight, you’ll do well to minimize the carbohydrates in your diet no matter how often you eat.

7 Day Soup Diet Recipe

Soup diets can be outlandish in what they ask you to consume, yet they are some of the most popular programs would be dieters like to follow.  I am sure at some point you or somebody you know has tried the old fashioned cabbage soup diet that asks you to eat nothing but, well, cabbage soup for 7 days. However with that crazy diet getting old many people are turning to new soup diets that offer more nutrition and less crazy lose weight fast schemes.

Soup diets can have there pros and cons like any diet.  A major Pro is that soup tastes good can be loaded with lean meats and vegetables, and can actually provide you with a pretty well rounded meal if you are eating the right types of soups.  A major con is that soup is often well over loaded with sodium and that can be quite the health risk if you are eating nothing but soup for the week.

Below is a popular 7 Day soup diet recipe that I found from RecipeZaar.com which in my opinion does a very good job of combining high valued foods to makes soups that will satisfy you and help you lose weight.

Before you begin this 7 day diet or any diet for that matter you should consult your family doctor to understand the health risks and benefits involved in completing a diet.  The 7 Day soup diet like all diets has its pros and cons and if done in an inappropriate way can contribute to serious health risks.
