Three Day Miami Diet
The 3 day Miami diet, which is usually known as the Miami Heart Institute Diet or some variation thereof, is a simple and restrictive diet. According to its proponents, the diet must be followed exactly or it will be ineffective. The choice of food isn’t unpleasant, however, with cheddar, hot dogs, and vanilla ice cream being a requirement.
Origin of the 3 Day Miami Diet
Despite the name, the origin of the three day Miami diet is unknown. No where on the Miami Heart Institute website mentions any such diet (or if it is, it’s buried in some inexplicably obscure area) either to confirm or deny its origins. Remarkably similar, and sometimes identical, diets surface under such names as the Cleveland Clinic Diet, the BHF Diet, the American Heart Association 3 Day Diet, and other 3 day diet names. However, all of these organizations deny any involvement in the diet, and most denounce it as going directly against their recommendations for a healthy diet and long term weight loss.
About the 3 Day Miami Diet
Whoever invented this diet, or perhaps whoever popularized it, has made the claim that it’s a 3 day chemical breakdown diet, meaning that the precise make up of the foods and how they’re eaten causes a chemical breakdown of fat, and that this is how you lose up to 10 lbs in 3 days. However, the reality is that most of the lost weight comes from shedding water weight, and in cases where your body switches into starvation mode, which can easily happen on such low calorie diets, you may even lose muscle mass. Between losing muscle, and the slowing down of your metabolism that comes with eating such low calorie amounts, and the regaining of the water weight that was lost, you may find that it’s harder to keep the weight off than it was before going on such a diet, and you may even gain more weight back than you lost.
However, if you find that you have difficulty controlling the amount of food that you eat, a low calorie short term diet may give you the control back that you need, and because of the very quick weight loss on short term diets such as the 3 day Miami diet, they are ideal for getting into that cute swimsuit or gorgeous dress for a party.
The 3 Day Miami Diet Menu Plan
The 3 day Miami diet menu plan is very simple. It must be followed exactly in order to lose weight- no snacking allowed! And where amounts are given no more and no less should be eaten. For things such as hot dogs, you may need to bring out your calculator as not all hot dogs are equal. The general rule of thumb for 3 day diets is that each day not exceed 700 calories (though this does vary depending on the diet), so check out the nutrition information on your hot dog packages.
Day 1: Breakfast- ½ grapefruit, 1 slice toast, 1 tbsp peanut butter, black coffee or tea. Lunch- ½ cup tuna, 1 slice toast, black coffee or tea. Dinner- 2 slices (3 oz- about half the size of a deck of cards) of any lean meat (think grass fed beef or buffalo- not the nicely marbled steak), 1 cup green beans, 1 cup beets, 1 small apple, 1 cup vanilla ice cream.
Day 2: Breakfast- 1 egg, 1 slice of toast, ½ banana, black coffee or tea. Lunch- 1 cup cottage cheese, 5 saltine crackers. Dinner- 2 hot dogs (frankenfurters/weiners), 1 cup broccoli, ½ cup carrots, ½ banana, ½ cup vanilla ice cream.
Day 3: Breakfast- 1 slice cheddar cheese, 5 saltine crackers, 1 small apple, black coffee or tea. Lunch- 1 hard boiled egg, 1 slice of toast. Dinner- 1 cup tuna, 1 cup beets, 1 cup cauliflower, ½ cup cantaloupe, ½ cup vanilla ice cream.
The 3 Day Miami Diet Protocol
While the diet is simple, absolutely no substitutions are allowed. Salt and pepper are allowed as seasonings, but nothing else is allowed. Not butter, oil, margarine, herbs, spices, vinegar, mustard, or ketchup. Drinking water is encouraged, particularly because your body will retain water if it doesn’t receive enough fresh water.
This diet is to be followed for 3 days only, followed by a 4 day rest period where you should eat normally, but to not go overboard. In other words, eat healthily but do not actually diet. After your 4 day rest period, you may start the diet again if you have more weight to lose.
3 Day Miami Diet Reviews
I can not write a review of the 3 day Miami diet because I have not actually tried it myself. However, the diet is not healthy in the long term, and so I can only recommend it for short term weight loss.
