Three Day Diet Fruit
There is a 3 day diet fruit flush that has become quite popular in recent years. If you enjoy a wide variety of fruit, you may even find that the diet is quite enjoyable.
About the 3 Day Diet Fruit Detox
The 3 day fruit diet is different from what is known simply as the fruit diet. “The Fruit Diet” is a 14 day diet where you can eat as much fruit as you wish during the day and then finish it off with a nice, healthy meal in the evening. The Fruit Flush diet, however, lasts only 3 days, allows for plenty of fruit, but not unlimited eating, and a light salad at the end of the day- supplemented by lean protein shakes throughout the day.
The author of The Fruit Flush- Jay Robb, claims that you can lose 9-10 lbs in 3 days by following the 3 day diet fruit detox plan. He does admit that about half of the weight lost will be water weight, but that the rest is fat. According to him, the small portions of lean protein (in the salad on day one, and in the protein shakes all 3 days) prevent muscle mass loss from the super low calorie intake. The diet totals about 900-1100 calories a day, which is considerably lower than the recommended daily amount, and since it doesn’t offer a wide variety of foods and recommends not taking vitamins, it shouldn’t be followed for long periods of time. However, if you’re following directions, you’ll only be doing this diet for 3 days at a time. Just be certain to take a break before starting it again!
How The 3 Day Fruit Diet Works
Fruit is the easiest food for your body to digest. It takes the shortest period of time to digest, and includes many vitamins and plenty of water (juice) and fiber (pulp). Jay Robb claims that following his 3 day flush will cleanse your body, break down and flush out toxins, and help you to lose weight.
3 Day Diet Fruit Flush Menu Plan
Day 1- Start at 8 am and finish at 4 pm- adjust according to your work schedule. Every 2 hours drink 6 oz of protein shake (details on choosing a protein shake below) . At 6pm eat a large, leafy green salad with any veggies you want topped with 3-6 oz lean protein (lean chicken, fish, or beef, or 4-8 scrambled egg whites), lemon juice from half a lemon, and a little olive oil, flax seed oil, or 1/2 an avocado. Salad should not exceed 6 cups.
One hour after each serving (protein shake or salad) drink an 8 oz glass of water. You may have more water throughout the day if you’re thirsty.
Days 2 &3- From 8am to 4pm eat one serving of fruit every two hours. At 6pm, have a dinner of a leafy green salad topped with the juice of half a lemon, a little olive oil, flax seed oil, or half an avocado. Also drink 1 protein drink.
One hour after each serving of fruit or salad, drink an 8oz glass of water. You may have more water throughout the day if you’re thirsty.
3 Day Diet Fruit Flush Protocol
If you’re following the 3 day diet fruit flush, you must follow it exactly. While you will lose several pounds following this diet, the purpose of it is to detox your body. You’ll be flushing out excess waste (you may want to stay near a bathroom while following this fruit diet), expelling toxins, and giving your body an over all cleanse.
You must drink at least one 8oz glass of water one hour after each serving.
When choosing a protein powder, Jay Robb recommends using an egg white protein powder or a whey protein powder. He makes no statement regarding soy protein powder, but I can recommend against it. Soy suppresses the thyroid, and in addition to a host of other problems, a suppressed thyroid is no good for weight loss.
According to Jay Robb, your protein powder should contain none of the following (read the ingredients label carefully!):
- Calcium caseinate
- Sodium caseinate
- Acesulfame potassium
- Evaporated cane juice
- Artificial flavors and/or colors
Exercise is not recommended while on the 3 day diet fruit detox, but is recommended when resuming a normal, healthy diet.
Jay Robb recommends following this fruit flush detox once a week for 12 weeks, or 1-2 times a month for life. He also recommends it for whenever you want a tune-up for your body.
3 Day Diet Fruit Review
I can’t properly review the 3 day diet fruit flush because I haven’t tried it. I do remember the good old days when a proper detox could be achieved with a simple lemonade diet, though, and my parents were greatly pleased with that one.
This diet does strike me as one of the healthiest 3 day diets that I’ve come across. Many of the others put an unhealthy focus on things like hot dogs and saltine crackers. This one? It’s all about the fruit. I could wish for a more nutritious alternative to the protein shakes, but I just can’t see anything wrong with a fruit and vegetable based diet for 3 days. I recommend not going beyond the 3 days, however. With the low calorie consumption, that would be begging for a slower metabolism and blood sugar problems. You can find more reviews here.
